i have an addiction. and no, it's not spending money on clothes.
surprised? yeah, me too.
in all actuality, i spend little-to-no money from month to month on clothing. when my bank statement comes in the mail at the end of the month, there is one category that trumps all other: coffee.
iced coffee. hot coffee. lattes. cappucinos. machiattos. americanos.
the language of the italian bean is something that i consider myself fluent in, and my credit card is a professional when it comes to purchasing coffee. every time i balance my check book, i'm always blown away by how quickly 2.50 becomes way big when multiplied by 17 [it's actually a big problem, you guys.] this hasn't been ongoing, since it was easier in the winter months to keep my spending at bay. with snow storms, sickness, & winter-drear, i simply said "no" to a nice cold brew. but, as the weather warmed up & finals stormed in, that "no" became practically nonexistent. i can't pass up a good cold brew and i've gone back to my old habits [they die real hard]. needless to say, my bank account is suffering. entering the summer months, i have made a vow to myself to master the perfect cold brew so I won't need to spend money [as] often on a yummy "venti iced, no room." but, that recipe has been hard to master...after months of searching i've found a few recipes that do the job.

for a single serving:
they've got a bit of sweetness to them but it's not excessive. i'm a huge creamy-coffee person, but this brew does just fine on its own. In fact, i prefer it black than with cream...it's just that yummy raw.
[my method]
*after brewing, i pop the cup in the freezer [for a quick chill] with a cloth covering [a paper towel does just fine. this just eliminates getting freezer crumbles in your drink whilst still allowing the cold air to penetrate the glass.]
*let sit for a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes [or until its cold enough for ya!]
*for a prettier look, transfer the coffee into a mason jar & if needed, add a few ice cubes.
don't like watering your iced down? make ice cubes using your favorite brew!

[pioneer woman is an utter genius!]
. . . . .
bottom line is, one can save a lot of money making a homemade cold brew.
what's your favorite recipe for iced coffee and how do you take your cuppa joe?
cream / sugar / both ?
